Basement
General Meaning: Isolation
For most, basements are cold, dank rooms beneath the house. The fact that they are “under” the living space equates to our feelings of isolation, loneliness, perhaps even death. Murderers have actually buried their victims in the basement of their homes. And in the movie “Psycho” Norman Bates put his mother down there. Even though basements are the foundation of the house, the connotation is that they are negative.
