General Meaning: Something, or someone is hiding underneath the surface
When dreaming of any animal, it is important to understand the general behavior/ behaviors of that animal. What are the characteristics of the alligator? They are huge reptiles that wait patiently for their prey. They lie low, beneath the surface. When the vulnerable, and unsuspecting near – they pounce. They pounce to kill and are vicious. Not to say they are displaying bad behavior . . . this is just how the alligator is. Look at those around you. Is there something hidden in a contract you are about to sign? Read every word and even wait to sign. Is someone giving you a false sense of compassion? Remember, Alligators are incapable of this.
